Volunteering at Special Olympics
Braver Angels of Wilmington members volunteered to support the athletes participating in the Special Olympics New Hanover County 100m and 200m races.

Potluck at Vigilant Hope Soup Kitchen.

In April and July, Braver Angels members volunteered with the Vigilant Hope Soup Kitchen to share a meal with neighbors experiencing poverty. Rather than providing a traditional soup kitchen, the organization focuses instead on offering family style meals where volunteers and those in need can gather around the table as a comnnuity to eat and share their lives together.

Packing Food Boxes for Kids with Kids

Braver Angels of Wilmington members joined students from the Wilmington Academy of Arts and Sciences (WAAS) to assemble and donate 200 snack packs to Nourish NC for local children in need. The program provides non-perishable and fresh food items through partner organizations such as schools, pediatrician offices, and other nonprofits.

Packing Food Boxes for Kids

In November, the Braver Angels of Wilmington packed 120 food boxes for NourishNC's Food Farmacy Program. The program provides non-perishable and fresh food items through partner organizations such as schools, pediatrician offices, and other nonprofits.

Here's how it works:

At pediatrician offices, clinicians assess children for food insecurity. Children struggling with hunger and food insecurity are immediately provided with a box of non-perishable food containing more than 35 strategic meals. Each child also receives a “prescription” for fresh produce, lean meats, eggs, and bread, which can be picked up at NourishNC.
NourishNC community partners deliver the food boxes to the homes of vulnerable children ages 1-4 years old, who have been exposed to, or are experiencing poverty, violence, depression, Adverse Childhood Events (ACEs), developmental delays, homelessness, anger issues, incarcerated parent(s), etc.
At community centers, schools, and at other nonprofits, NourishNC provides everything from snacks to fully stocked pantries.

Pledge Drive Support

In September, BA Alliance of Wilmington team members answered pledge phones to help raise money to sustain the station's classical music and news programs. Read more about WHQR's programs here.

Packing Snack Packs

In July, the Braver Angels Alliance of Wilmington, NC partnered with the Shamrocks Lacrosse Team and packed over 200 donated snack packs for Nourish NC's Pantry Pals programs. Nourish NC provides these healthy snack packs to non-profits and community centers across Wilmington for kids who need a little extra fuel for their after-school activities. Gifts for Local Families
